Kit List & what to wear

Don't let the cold weather put you off enjoying SUP. It can be enjoyed all year round.

summer kit list

What to wear

During the summer months people generally opt for normal sportswear and either bare feet or an old pair of sneakers. A rain mac and a cap is always advisable.


What to bring with you.

  • Suncream 
  • Water Bottle and water
  • Snacks
  • A Hat or cap
  • Any medicines you require or need
  • Insect repellent
  • Dry Bag to put it all in. ( You can borrow one from me if you don't yet have your own)
  • Rain mac ( weather dependent)


For after your session a Towel & spare change of clothing incase of a fall in the water.

SPRING KIT LIST

What to wear

The main items of clothing should be warm and comfortable. Spring can be mixed and Neoprenes & are still a key item on the clothing list. 


Either a full wetsuit or neoprene leggings with sports tops will work.


Footwear - Either neoprene boots or an old pair of sneakers. (neoprene socks can add to keeping your feet warm beneath boots or sneaks)

Waterproof top / Jacket - Always bring a spare thin waterproof layer for April showers,.

Tops - Thin layers as weather is very changeable.

What to bring with you

If you are heading out without an instructor or a group take the following

  • Hot drinks / cold drinks
  • First aid kit
  • Mobile phone and waterproof phone case
  • Spare clothing
  • Sun cream
  • Insect repellent
  • Buoyancy aid
  • Waist leash (DO NOT WEAR A LEASH AROUND YOUR ANKLE ON A RIVER) More info when booking into a beginner session.
  • Dry bag to put it all in.


autumn / WINTER KIT

Tips

This is a small section to help you be prepared for the cooler weather heading our way. Don't let cooler temperatures put you off enjoying SUP all year round.  The list below is a great place to start with your Winter Kit list. Continue to enjoy exploring.


  • Dry Bag - Big enough to put extra layers into it.
  • Wooly hat
  • Buoyancy Aid (most clubs have them to borrow)
  • Neoprene Leggings or Dry pants. (if wearing dry pants make sure you wear thermals underneath as the dry pants are not very warm)
  • A wetsuit - With flexibility between a 3mm and 5mm thickness for movement,
  • Neoprene Boots (nothing less than 5mm for winter)
  • Gloves ( Neoprene or wool)
  • Base layers - Top
  • Waterproof Jacket
  • Neck buff
  • Flask  for hot drinks / Thermal Mug / Snacks
  • Water bottle
  • Weather Apps  on phone Willy weather / Met office 
  • Suncream 
  • Purse / Wallet incase you need to stop off somewhere
  • Small First aid kit
